Morimoto, Philadelphia

723 Chestnut St.,
United States,

The Japanese-cooking expert on the television show Iron Chef, Masaharu Morimoto helms this upscale restaurant—its plain, minimalist façade set next door to the heritage Quaker City National Bank. Inside, bubble-like shapes complement the undulating wave in the wooden ceiling, while colored lights and lamps illuminate the booths. Although dishes are primarily drawn from Japanese cuisine, there are global influences in some, like the roasted foie gras with kimchi miso and scallion pancakes. In addition to the renowned chef’s traditional tasting menu, called omakase, there is a beverage version pairing inventive cocktails with each food course.
