Franklin Fountain
Philadelphia, PA, 19106, United States
In an Old City neighborhood dominated by hoagie joints, this Market Street ice cream parlor is, by design, old school. With a make-it-from-scratch food ethic, antique accents such as polished chrome fountains, and a copper and cherry wood interior design scheme, the Berley brothers have carefully transformed this brick corner row house. Open since 2004, Franklin Fountain’s hand-made ice cream is still the main draw, but there is also candy, fudge, a bakery, and milkshakes, all made with Lancaster County milk and cream. Lemon ice and seasonal sorbets are among the non-dairy choices.
Insider Tip:
Take an easy-to-carry cup (instead of a cone) to nearby Penn’s Landing to check out the historic vessels moored there; it’s only a 10-minute walk.
