Philadelphia

Alma de Cuba

1623 Walnut St.
Philadelphia, PA, 19103, United States
TEL: (215) 988-1799

From Philadelphia restaurateur Stephen Starr, Alma de Cuba has a minimalist style with glass walls, clean-lined furniture, and portraits of Cubans on the walls. The crowd that gathers here, just a block east of Rittenhouse Square, tends to be casually dressed and happy to sip on mojitos. On the menu, eight kinds of ceviche stray from the classic versions, pairing Maine diver scallops with elderflower and pomegranate, or tuna, black sea bass, and salmon with roasted sweet potatoes. About a dozen entrées are gluten-free, including the rum-cured duck breast with smoked currants and creamed yucca.

Insider Tip:

A memorable finale: the chocolate cigar arrives with a flaming, edible matchbook.
