The red-glowing PSFS sign—which stands for Philadelphia Savings Fund Society—is a Philly icon and sits atop the city's first skyscraper, which re-opened as a renovated convention-style hotel in 2000. Geometric prints in the lobby have a darker Art Deco feel, but the 581 guest rooms are bright with pale tones and orange accents. The upscale hotel makes guest beds with 300-thread-count cotton sheets, and each room has a robe, MP3 alarm clock, and a chaise lounge. Within the 1932 building, swim in a two-lane lap pool on the fifth floor, or dine on local seafood at SoleFood restaurant.
Room to Book:
Higher-floor rooms have the best views of downtown Philly, and those facing east overlook the Delaware River.
Insider Tip:
It’s a five-minute walk to the Fabric Workshop and Museum, which commissions contemporary artists to create new textile works.
