Philadelphia
La Colombe Torrefaction
Philadelphia, PA, 19103, United States
Inspired by European coffee culture, this Philadelphia-based coffeehouse is now an international chain with locations in New York, Chicago, and Seoul. At this Center City flagship, large windows illuminate the interior, which is decorated with colorful mosaic tables, cone-shaped pendant lights, and terracotta-hued walls hung with original artwork. The space is purposefully uncluttered, as owners Todd Carmichael and Jean-Philippe Iberti think typical coffeehouse merchandise (such as mugs and T-shirts) distracts from the primary focus: coffee. Here, expertly crafted coffee drinks such as cappuccino and espresso are served in Italian ceramic cups and paired with fresh baked goods, such as croissants.
Insider Tip:
Because of the shop’s popularity, finding an open table is often a challenge; if none are available, walk to nearby Rittenhouse Square and sip your coffee on a tree-shaded bench.
