Anthony's Italian Coffee House & Chocolate House
Anthony's, a wooden storefront located in Philadelphia's Ninth Street Italian Market, opened in the 1930s. The environment is Old World, with small, marble-topped tables, dark-wood wainscoting, and tall, wooden shelves stocked with sacks of coffee and baskets of cellophane-wrapped candies. Traditional Italian pastries like chocolate chip cannoli, are displayed on a tiled counter. The espresso bar serves a variety of brewed coffee drinks; the Venetian roast is a popular signature blend. Frozen coffee drinks are kept cold and undiluted with coffee ice cubes. Chocolate-covered figs stuffed with chopped almonds are a specialty here. Panini filled with Italian meats and cheeses are served for both breakfast and lunch.
Sip your coffee while you take a tour through the Italian Market. For a fee, several tour companies offer excursions, but you must book ahead.
