Parma—home of Parmigiano cheese and prosciutto ham—is the ultimate Italian foodie city, so it’s no surprise the latest addition to its lodging scene was converted from an old Barilla pasta factory. Thanks to the design firm behind the renovation—none other than that of legendary Italian architect Renzo Piano—the result is a clean, modern look accented by modern furnishings by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe and Pierre Chareau in the 110 rooms and suites, two bars, and Parmigianino restaurant. For those intent on exploring, the hotel is situated one block outside the city’s historic core, just a 15-mintue stroll from the cathedral and Parma’s central square.

Room to Book:

Both the Suite King and the Presidential Suite (with a vaguely Asian style) are considerably larger than the modest-size standard guest rooms and are furnished with hydromassage tubs in the marble-clad bathrooms.

Insider Tip:

The hotel’s small fitness center features a sauna and Turkish bath, but for a true spa experience, guests should head next door to the Villa Eden Health Club, for hour-long massages (villa-eden.com; massages from $84).
