Paris

Marché Président Wilson

Av. du Président Wilson
Paris, France

On Wednesdays and Saturdays the largest open air market in Paris is held on the Avenue du President Wilson. White trucks bring goods from the French countryside, including inexpensive table wines, cheeses, oils, home baked breads, sweets, and vegetables. Maraîcher Joel Thiebault carries on his great-grandparents' business and sells nearly 1,700 varieties of vegetables that are sought by renowned chefs such as Benoit Guichard of Jamin. Vendors sell six-foot-tall sunflowers, raspberries on the vine, and roses with white petals. Fresh lobster, oysters, and fish is brought from the coast while hunters offer game birds with head and feathers still attached.

Insider Tip:

The market lines up the avenue and ends at the Trocadero. Here is a wonderful place to look back over the market and towards the Eiffel Tower in the distance.
