Le Balajo Dance Hall

9 Rue de Lappe
Paris, 75011, France
TEL: 33-01-47-00-07-87

Decades of fads and trends haven’t changed this old-fashioned, working-class dance hall much. Operating since 1936 on Rue de Lappe in the Bastille District, Le Balajo was Paris’ most popular dance spot in the bal musette (a style of French ballad popular in the early 20th century), with the likes of Maurice Chevalier and Edith Piaf paying visits. Today, a huge neon sign out front beckons crowds onto its small dance floor while a DJ spins 1940’s swing, salsa, and old-style musette from a balcony formerly occupied by a live orchestra. Grab one of the vintage, red-vinyl seats to relax and people-watch while sipping champagne.

Insider Tip:

Saturday is Ladies' night with a half-price entrance fee.
