Old Town
Salpicón
Priscila Satkoff, who grew up in Mexico City, opened Salpicón in 1995 after realizing the shortage of authentic yet modern Mexican cuisine in Chicago. Here, patrons either dine on the outdoor patio beneath a cobalt blue awning or in the equally colorful, two-story dining room, adorned with pink and yellow walls, circular tiered light fixtures, and paintings by Mexican artist Alejandro Romero. Visitors can stop by the second-floor bar, where wall-to-wall windows overlook Old Town, to sample a selection of the restaurant’s 100-plus tequilas. Then, it’s on to signature dishes like the double-cut pork chop in an Oaxacan mole ancho.
Insider Tip:
When ordering a customized margarita, ask your server to recommend a tequila based on your flavor preferences, such as smooth or smoky.
