Old Delhi (Shahjahanabad)
Jama Mosque (Jama Masjid)
Old Delhi , 110006, India
Thousands gather each day to pray at this beautiful Moghul-era mosque; as well as being the city’s principal place of worship, it’s the largest and most famous mosque on the Indian continent. The grand structure, built in the mid-1600s with sandstone colonnades and a trio of striking domes striped in black and white marble, today also plays host to hordes of curious tourists. You may have to queue up to see the view from the south minaret, and you’ll likely be hectored by locals wanting to guide you around the property (for a fee, of course)—but a visit to this majestic place is worth a few inconveniences.
