This floating flower market is always filled with people, who come for the experience, colors, and fragrances, even if shopping isn’t on the agenda. Located along the edge of the Singel canal near the Leidsestraat shops, the Bloemenmarkt has been around since 1862 and consists of a row of greenhouse-style buildings floating on barges. Stacks of wooden bins are filled with bulbs, cut flowers, — namely tulips — and bundles of flowers hanging overhead to dry. Garden decorations, gourd-shaped terrariums, succulents in ceramic klompen, and Christmas ornaments may also be found in the flower market and gift shops.
If you want to bring bulbs, seeds, or even plants back to your country, find out first if it’s allowed and then have the inspection certificate ready.
