Things to do in North Fork

If you travel by your stomach—and like wine-tasting— there are already many things to do in the North Fork, but there are other diversions, too:

Wander the wineries, with 40 different vineyards around here full of wines ranging from rieslings to chardonnays to merlots. Some of the best wineries include Shinn Estate Vineyards, Anthony Nappa Wines and Croteaux Vineyards. Go green at the markets in the area. You can often pick your own or just choose from piles of berries, greens and even baked pies at places like Oysterponds Farm or Briermare Farm. Also, stop at the Lavender by the Bay farm to pick up dried cooking lavender and various lavender-scented treasures. What to do in North Fork between meals? Take advantage of the clean air and beautiful outdoors. Rent a kayak on one of the beaches and paddle across the bay to spot heron, osprey, or deer. Another popular option is to take a bike tour of the local wineries. One of the non-food-oriented things to do in the North Fork is to explore the still-active Horton Point Lighthouse, which dates back to 1857. Check out the maritime artifacts inside or soak up the Long island Sound views from the park outside.
