Things to do in North Carolina

While you are visiting North Carolina, be sure not to miss the Outer Banks, a two-hundred-mile-long strip of barrier islands off the coast of North Carolina famous for such movie settings as "Prince of Tides" and "Cape Fear." Hatteras Island, one of these barrier islands, divides the Atlantic Ocean and the Pamlico Sound. With a population a little more than four thousand, it is a perfect retreat. Walk untouched beaches and visit the seven quaint little villages there. Enjoy the unique flora and fauna. There are several popular lighthouses in the area.

Get away to the mountains. The Blue Ridge Parkway and Great Smoky Mountains are two of the most-visited attractions America. Hike, mountain climb, or enjoy the view from your mountain cabin.

If you are a history buff, relive the past on North Carolina Civil War trails and historic sites like: Fort Macon and the International Civil Rights Museum. Go where flight began and tour the Wright Brothers National Memorial in Kitty Hawk. Trace retrace Blackbeard's path along the coast. View treasures from his sunken ship at the North Carolina Maritime Museum in Beaufort.

Don't forget North Carolina has made a name for itself with its wines, beers and legal moonshine.
