Nob Hill + Russian Hill

Alfred Hitchcock’s Vertigo was filmed at this lower Nob Hill landmark, formerly the York Hotel. Reopened as Hotel Vertigo in 2008, the renovated building continues to pay homage to the eponymous film—the movie is played 24/7 in the lobby, and guestrooms are adorned with artwork that incorporates the film’s iconic swirl image. Designed by Thomas Schoos, the rooms are also furnished with tilted horse head lamps, bright orange wingback chairs, and white leather headboards. In addition to a noon checkout time, the hotel offers chocolate breakfasts and occasional surprises, such as flower petals sprinkled in the bathroom sink.
Room to Book:
Movie buffs should request room No. 501, where a portion of the movie was filmed.
Insider Tip:
For the best Vertigo photo op, take the elevator to the seventh floor and walk up the last flight of stairs to the penthouse level. Then peer over the railing.
