Things to do in Nice

At the top of your Nice to do list should be a morning spent walking the Promenade des Anglais and taking in the yachts and sailboats that pepper the port of Nice. Later, make trips to the Cathédrale Orthodoxe Russe Saint-Nicolas and Notre-Dâme de Nice, two of the city’s oldest cathedrals and excellent examples of fine religious architecture. And before heading back to your room for a quick catnap before dinner, make a trip to the Cours Saleya across from the Quai des États-Unis and buy a fragrant bouquet of flowers for your room.

For a taste of history, be sure to gain admission to the aforementioned Matisse Museum for a look at the life and work of the famous French painter and the Museum of Art and History at Palace Masséna, which is adjacent to the many buildings constructed in the Italian style on the square. If you should find yourself in the city in July, be sure to buy tickets to the Nice Jazz Festival, a series of concerts held in the very same Place Masséna and dating back to 1948.

Finally, another thing to do in Nice is to catch a football match (and in this context we mean soccer) at the Allianz Riviera. The stadium, which boasts a capacity of 36,000, is home to OGC Nice, Nice’s nationally ranked football team and a source of local pride since 1904. When in Rome, right?
