Opened to the public in 1978, the award-winning Abraham Goodman House is home to all three divisions of the Kaufman Center, including Merkin Concert Hall, Lucy Moses School, and Special Music School (P.S. 859). Originally designed by noted Modernist architect Ashok Bhavnani, the structure won the Bard Award for its unique architectural design and efficiency. In January 2008, Rober A.M. Stern Architects headed the facilities' renovation, which included updating the Brutalist façade by replacing rusty metal panels with translucent glass. Other changes included enlarging the lobbies, creating new rooms for events and classes, and updating technology.
