Crosby Street Hotel
The first American outpost from Kit and Tim Kemp’s London-based Firmdale hotel brand felt like a breath of fresh air—and color—when it first opened in 2009. And it continues to feel playful and whimsical: just check out the giant Crosby the Cat sculpture outside the front door by Colombian figurative artist and sculptor Fernando Botero. Set right in the middle of SoHo (you can easily stroll to Balthazar for breakfast), the Crosby has 86 bright, airy rooms with warehouse windows, colorful headboards offset by crisp white sheets, and the Kemp’s signature fabric-covered dress forms. Like other Firmdale properties, there are exclusive spaces for guests only, which adds to the overall feeling of staying at a home-away-from-home. Here, guests can lounge in the sculpture garden at the center of the hotel, as well as in a drawing room with a French sandstone fireplace and honor bar.
