Writer O. Henry used to frequent Pete's Tavern, which has occupied a prime corner spot on Irving Place since 1864. The place looks much the same today as it did then, with an intricately carved bar, a pressed tin ceiling, and antique lamps. It even serves its own beer, the 1864 ale.
