New York City
Rose Bar at Gramercy Park Hotel
When Ian Schrager used his Midas touch to gild the much-loved Gramercy Park Hotel, he sure didn’t skimp on its first-floor bar, retaining the vintage ambience while giving it a long overdue overhaul. Custom furniture designed by Julian Schnabel peppers the inviting, denlike room; contemporary masterworks by Andy Warhol, Damien Hirst, and Jean-Michel Basquiat (among others) cover the walls; the female servers are always catwalk-ready; and music playlists created by international DJ’s entertain a young, monied crowd. What’s surprising, though, is how remarkable the (admittedly pricey) $20 drinks are—no wonder, since medal-winning mixologist Charlotte Voisey, who has run bars in London, Barcelona, and Buenos Aires, consulted on the beverage catalogue. Thanks to her, classic cocktail culture is alive and well at the Rose Bar, from aperitifs to digestifs.
