New Orleans

501 Napoleon Ave.,
New Orleans,
United States,

This iconic music venue was first established in 1977 in honor of local R&B legend Professor Longhair, who performed at the club until his death in 1980. Originally constructed in 1912, the building itself is a two-story, 1,000-capacity structure with a stage, a wraparound balcony, three bars, and a huge drawing of the Professor. In addition to local musicians like Dr. John and the Neville Brothers, Tipitina’s also hosts national and international acts, with past performers including James Brown, Tim McGraw, and Pearl Jam. Special events include the Sunday afternoon Cajun dance party and free Friday concerts during the summer.
