Purportedly India’s highest-grossing restaurant and certainly one of the smartest, this upstart at the Oberoi has beguiling interiors (striking fuchsia walls, intricate sandalwood sculptures on the ceiling) and warm lighting that together make the vast, bustling space seem almost intimate. The offerings are so wide-ranging you expect quality to suffer—how can any restaurant succeed with yakitori, wood-fired pizza, and saag paneer? But the menu is for the most part surefire: the pizzas are impeccably crisp and tastily adorned, the sushi bar is top-notch, and the is as good as any in town (as well as refreshingly light on the ghee). Don’t miss the daily trio of chilled soups, served in espresso cups, especially if it includes the earthy-tangy orange and fennel soup; or the knockout butter chicken (a variation of the familiar chicken tikka masala).
