The most elegant “mall” in town, Santushti’s dozen-odd boutiques set in terracotta–roofed bungalows surround a verdant magnolia-and-palm-shaded courtyard where peacocks strut. The sapphire-blue birds are outshone only by the resplendently colored saris of the wealthy and famous women who shop here (a notice reads no photography.). Follow the human peacocks to Ensemble for beautiful crepe tops, silk dresses, and pearl jewelry; Tulsi for ethereal woven scarves by designer Neeru Kumar; and Noor Jehan for brightly colored shawls made of kashgar, a fine sheer cashmere gauze.
