While hot chicken and barbecue have long been Nashville staples—and Hattie B’s and Martin’s should be on any first-timer’s to-eat list—the culinary scene has been on the rise over the past decade, with innovators like City House’s Tandy Wilson paving the way. Restaurateurs like Strategic Hospitality co-owners (and brothers) Benjamin and Max Goldberg have kept the restaurant world on its toes with a number of new out-of-the-box concepts launching over the past few years; among them, Pinewood Social, Le Sel, and the Catbird Seat, one of the hardest tables in the country to land. Other lauded chefs, such as the Farm House’s Trey Cioccia and Josephine’s Andrew Little, define the local farm-to-table movement with ever-evolving menus and fresh, creative spins on traditional Southern dishes.

Meanwhile, those looking for great barbecue will want to drive just outside town to pick up grub at Corky’s Ribs & BBQ. East Nashville is home to a wonderful lineup of farm-to-table eateries like Margot Cafe & Bar and POP Nashville. The downtown area has a host of great Nashville restaurants like Etch, an eclectic restaurant with an open kitchen, and Husk, a restaurant founded by James Beard Award winner Sean Brock.
