Each year, a new restaurant (or two) opens to rave reviews, shifting the food landscape toward the next “it” spot. Most of these restaurants are clustered right in town: Cru, which opened in 2012, boasts a spectacular raw bar; the Proprietor’s Bar & Table (opened in 2013) serves sophisticated small plates; mainstays Straight Wharf and the Boarding House offer outstanding seafood and farm-to-table fare.

It’s hard to go wrong on this small island, except by forgetting to make a reservation (if you go during the high season, call a few weeks in advance). But visitors would also be remiss to overlook local haunts like Centre Street Bistro and Pi Pizza that garner year-round attention from locals—and by skipping beloved ice cream shop Juice Bar, no matter how long the line.
