This 48-year-old store at the corner of Main and Orange Streets is a historic mainstay. After four decades under the ownership of the Beman-Havermeyer family, it's now part of Nantucket Book Partners together with sister store Bookworks.
Visitors looking to learn about the island's remarkable history and character should look no further than Mitchell's second floor, which is home to a comprehensive collection of books about the island. For such a quaint establishment, the shop hosts heavy-hitting writers for book signings during the summer months, including local phenomena Elin Hilderbrand and Nathaniel Philbrick. In June, Mitchell's is one of the hubs for the Nantucket Book Festival, which is run by its multi-talented owner Wendy Hudson.
