Alte Pinakothek

Situated in the Kunstareal (art quarter), the Alte Pinakothek museum is home to one of the world’s finest collections of Old Master paintings, dating from the 14th century to the 18th. Commissioned by King Ludwig I and opened in 1836, the museum is a red-brick Neoclassical structure with high ceilings, large skylights, and silk wall coverings. The permanent collection comprises approximately 700 works, including masterpieces by Leonardo, Rembrandt, Dürer, and Titian. There’s also an extensive collection of work by Rubens, including his Last Judgment, one of the largest paintings ever created. The museum provides themed tours several times a week.
