Bayerischer Kunstgewerbe-Verein Store & Gallery
Housed in two adjoining buildings in the Allstadt district, this contemporary art gallery is one of the largest in Germany. Originally established in 1851, the Bayerischer Kunstgewerbe-Verein (Bavarian Arts & Crafts Association) was founded to promote the work of local craftspeople. Today, the gallery displays and sells pieces by more than 400 national and international artists. The inventory includes a variety of media, ranging from sculpture and painting to jewelry, glassware, textiles, and ceramics. During the holidays, the shop draws particularly large crowds with its selection of original Christmas decorations. The gallery hosts an average of seven exhibitions each year.
If you’re looking for an unusual lunch spot near the gallery, walk to the trendy Lenbach restaurant, where Renaissance-style frescoes contrast with modern elements like an elevated catwalk.
