Morris Island
Morris Island
Just south of Charleston Harbor, tiny Morris Island is probably the last undeveloped spot on the South Carolina coast. The site of a Civil War battle (dramatized in the film Glory), the island has been put under permanent conservation easement. The result of a successful public land trust campaign. The habitat for osprey, blue herons, bald eagles, and two endangered species — the piping plover and the loggerhead sea turtle — preserved for hikers and bird-watchers for years to come.
