Montreal
Cosmo
Located in the Notre-Dame-de-Grâce neighborhood, Cosmos was opened in 1967 by Crete-born Tony Koulakis. The eatery has just 11 stools, where customers sit to enjoy the greasy-spoon-style meals. Said to have more than 1,800 calories, the signature “mish mash” scrambles four eggs with ham, salami, bacon, sausage, cheese, onion, and tomato. The restaurant, where Koulakis manned the grill for more than three decades before turning the business over to his children, is also renowned for its hash browns. A lighter option, the veggie creation is a stacked sandwich of fried egg, onions, cheese, lettuce, and tomato.
Insider Tip:
Because the restaurant is so small, lines often form for those waiting to eat, especially on the weekends between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m.
