The Regent, Berlin

49 Charlottenstrasse
Berlin, 10117, Germany
TEL: 49 30 20 338
TEL: 49 30 2033-6666

A rather humdrum façade belies the sumptuous interiors at the Regent—which is just steps from Gendarmenmarkt square (and which was a Four Seasons property until 2004). The lobby’s crystal chandeliers, marble floors, and French antiques set the tone for the 195 guest rooms—all fitted with Biedermeier furniture, damask upholstery, baths with huge soaking tubs, and thoughtful details like international electrical outlets hidden inside the antique wood desks. (They’re the largest accommodations in the city, starting at 430 square feet for standard rooms and going up to 2,300 for the Presidential Suite.) The on-site, Michelin-starred Fischers Fritz restaurant serves sublime seafood, and the hotel has both an in-house tea expert for afternoon tea and (don’t giggle!) a water sommelier.

Room to Book: If you want to splurge (or are bringing the family), go for the Gendarmen Suite—set on the seventh floor, it has two bedrooms and bathrooms, an open fireplace, a kitchenette with espresso machine, and spectacular views over the square and French Cathedral.

Insider Tip:

The Bretonian lobster at Fischers Fritz—whether prepared in a coconut-pumpkin curry or served tableside for two as Homard à la Presse—is legendary here.
