Serious dairy lovers flock to the Mission's Bi-Rite Creamery for each day's soft-serve special (Monday, for instance, is coffee and salted caramel day), as well as hand-scooped ice creams showcasing local ingredients like Sonoma-sourced lavender and honey. Almost all of the shop's goodies, from ice cream to vegan-pleasing sorbet, granita and popsicles, are organic and made from scratch. Rocky Road, for instance, boasts house-made marshmallows and chocolate-covered almonds. For those who prefer their sweets at room temperature, cupcakes, soufflé and pies are available. Keep your eyes peeled for the huge ice cream cone above the doorway—likely accompanied by an eager line wrapping around to Dolores Street.
