Minnesota State Fair
Considered by many to be the unofficial end of summer, this 12-day fair runs from late August through Labor Day. In addition to celebrating Minnesota's rich agricultural heritage through livestock and farm-product competitions and displays, the fair is known for its midway, concession booths, live performances, and kids' activities. Since its launch in 1859, it has grown to become one of America’s biggest state fairs with approximately 1.7 million visitors in 2010. Besides classic rides like the Giant Slide, visitors come to sample favorite food items like the deep-fried Minneapple Pie, served with either vanilla or cinnamon ice cream.
