Built in the early 20th century, the columned, Beaux Arts-style Minneapolis Institute of Arts now includes a wing added in 1974 by Japanese architect Kenzo Tange and a 2005 addition by American architect Micheal Graves. The musuem's collection spans cultures and millenia, including Asian and African art, contemporary and decorative art, and media ranging from drawing to painting, photography, sculpture, textiles, and new media. Two restaurants within the museum provide space to take a break from exploring the vast collection, which numbers over 100,000 pieces.
