Sakagura

211 E. 43rd St.
Basement Level
New York, NY, 10017, United States
TEL: (212) 953-7253

Just a short hop eastward from Grand Central Station, installed on the basement level of an office building on East 43rd Street, is an authentic Japanese izakaya with a reputation for being one of the best sake bars in the United States. Seated among Sakagura’s cherry-blossom branches, bamboo and wood accents, and Japanese teapots, patrons can choose from more than 200 kinds of sake available in 4 types of glasses to enhance the flavor—the servers are also happy to make recommendations about what pairs best with specific menu items. If you’re there for the food instead of the sake, there are also green tea and Sapporo beer.

Insider Tip:

Sakagura frequently hosts sake-tasting parties that are attended and often led by sake masters hailing from Japan.
