La Grenouille
New York, NY, 10022, United States
One of the city’s few remaining traditional French restaurants, La Grenouille is still a top choice for special occasion dining, more than half a century since its opening in 1962. Tall sprays of fresh flowers fill the two-level interior, which is also furnished with bright red banquettes and classic white tablecloths. Served on fine china, signature entrées such as the grilled Dover sole with mustard sauce are followed by La Grenouille’s famous soufflés, available in flavors like chocolate, Grand Marnier, and apples with Calvados (apple brandy). Upstairs, a more affordable lunchtime prix fixe menu is served beside the fireplace.
Insider Tip:
The restaurant has a BYO policy that includes a pricey corkage fee, but it’s still a less expensive option than many of the wine list bottles.
