Midtown East
Kuruma Zushi
Second Fl.
New York, NY, 10017, United States
Keep a careful eye out for the entrance to this sushi haven in Midtown. With just a small sign and a door, chef Toshihiro Uezo’s restaurant is unassuming in nearly every way, with none of the bling of his trendier neighbors, just a classic red and black lacquered bar and a few Japanese accents. The sushi, however, is anything but unassuming. For 38 years, Uezo has been serving what many consider the best in the city—from translucent fluke rectangles in a tart ponzu sauce to very fatty tuna and yellowtail with scallions. The bill will bring you down to Earth, however.
Insider Tip:
Try to reserve a seat at the bar to watch chef Uezo work his magic. With 38 years under the belt, it's nothing short of watching an artist at his trade.
