One of the city’s first boutique hotels, Morgans was established by Studio 54 cofounder Ian Schrager in 1984. Renovated in 2008, the Murray Hill hotel juxtaposes a Renaissance-style façade with a contemporary interior by celebrated French designer Andrée Putnam. Putnam’s palette of grays, blacks, and whites extends from the lobby (also furnished with 1930’s armchairs) to the 113 guestrooms, decorated with white duvets, black-and-white-checkered throws, plush gray window seats, and black-and-white photos by Robert Mapplethorpe. Morgans also has a complimentary continental breakfast and a stylish living room area with antique French leather chairs, flat-screen TV’s, computers, and well-stocked bookshelves.

Room to Book:

Request a top-floor room at the front of the property for views of the Empire State Building, which is just a six-minute walk away.

Insider Tip:

The breakfast room opens at 7 a.m. on weekdays, but if you need to get an earlier start, stop by the living room for complimentary coffee.
