Microcentro

Plaza de Mayo

Buenos Aires, Argentina
TEL: 54 11 4383-8134 ‎

A tidy square dating from the 1580's, lined with Neoclassical buildings like the Catedral Metropolitana and anchored by an ornate cast-iron fountain, this plaza is the backdrop for the Casa Rosada, a bright-pink 19th-century mansion that serves as the office of the president. Look up and you'll see the balcony where former first lady Eva Perón, dressed in Dior and dripping in diamonds, pretended to be just one of the folks as her fans swooned on the plaza below.
