Gusman Center for the Performing Arts

174 E. Flagler St.
Miami, FL, 33131, United States
TEL: (305) 374-2444
TEL: (305) 372-0925

Opened in 1926 as the Olympia Theater, this venue—with Moorish architectural touches and a faux-constellation ceiling painting—now hosts the Miami International Film Festival every January, the local ballet troupe Maximum Dance Company, and occasional concerts. It's always been a hotbed of activity, from its early days as a silent-movie palace to its hosting of Elvis Presley in his younger days. In the mid 1970's, it was saved from demolition by philanthropist Maurice Gusman and restored under the supervision of Miami architect Morris Lapidus. If you don't book tickets for events like the Miami Bhangra Dancing Competition, drop by on any day except Sunday for a free self-guided tour of the interior.
