Museo Universitario Arte Contemporáneo
It's a bit of a hike to get to Ciudad Universitaria (University City), the campus of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), in southern Mexico City. But between the gorgeous mosaic on the library made by Mexican artist Juan O'Gorman, the one made of volcanic stone on the side of the stadium by none other than Mexican muralist Diego Rivera, and MUAC, the contemporary art museum, it's easy to spend a half or full day exploring the intersection of the artistic and historic on the campus. Opened in 2008, MUAC is a fabulous, light-filled museum with galleries spacious enough to hold large-scale exhibits by internationally renowned artists such as Cai Guo-Qiang, Anish Kapoor, and the Cuban artists' collective, Los Carpinteros. An on-site gift shop features gorgeous home goods, clothing, and accessories.
