La Bipolar
La Bipolar is one of the city’s most star-studded cantinas, as A-list Mexican actor Diego Luna co-owns this funky fabulous restaurant and bar. Situated in an aging building on a tree-lined Coyoacán boulevard, “La B” doesn’t look like a hot hangout for Mexico’s brightest stars. Once inside, however, the place is full of contemporary kitsch such as butcher block tables and plastic crates on the walls. Start with a refreshing mezcal cocktail and some crunchy Lebanese-style potato chips with peppers, lemon, and paprika. Regulars come for the many vegetarian options and innovative dishes such as marlin tostaditos.

This taverna is just one-half block from the Coyoacán market, so chow down on one of the market stall’s famed quesadillas before throwing back mezcal shots at “La B.”
