Matagi Island
Matangi Island Resort
Popular with honeymooners, this family-owned resort is the only hotel on 240-acre Matangi Island. Overlooking a white-sand beach, the 11 private bures (thatched-roof bungalows) contain hand-hewn wooden beams and sheer white bed canopies, surrounded by tropical flowers. The tree house bures, which are built in Pacific almond trees, also have outdoor Jacuzzis. Resort fees include three meals a day at the island’s only restaurant, Vale-Ni-Kana, which serves local seafood with Fijian produce like breadfruit and taro. Also included is a welcome fruit basket, a sulu (traditional skirt worn by men and women), and water sports such as snorkeling and kayaking.
Room to Book:
If privacy is a top priority, request a bure far from the restaurant and the shipping dock area.
Insider Tip:
Make sure to book activities in advance, especially if you want to experience the ever-popular private picnic on Horseshoe Bay.
