On this one-acre islet, this restored Victorian lighthouse that once guided ships from the San Pablo Strait to the San Francisco stockyards, has been transformed into an all-inclusive five-room inn—it’s the only place to stay on the island.

The collection of meticulously decorated cabins scattered along a wooded hillside are so peaceful they have an almost narcotic effect.

The modern property is built on pilings over San Francisco Bay. From ferries and kayakers to sea lions and migratory birds, guests here have a prime spot for taking in the harbor’s goings-on. Most of the 29 rooms feature fireplaces and floor-to-ceiling windows.

Opened in 2008, with a prime location half a mile north of the Golden Gate Bridge in the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, Cavallo Point blends old and new to great effect.
