A pioneer in the Chelsea art scene, Matthew Marks has acquired through the years 16,000 square feet of exhibit space, encompassing four galleries and a museum-style poster shop. Beyond this gray-brick facade's glass doors, Marks’s slate of 20th century and contemporary artists includes international powerhouse figures such as Jasper Johns, Nan Goldin, Ellsworth Kelly, Willem de Kooning, and Brice Marden. While perhaps a little skewed toward painting and photography, the gallery also shows large-scale sculpture and installation works as well. With 12 to 14 exhibitions a year, Matthew Marks is must-see stop on any Chelsea gallery tour.
