Surrounded by the high-end boutiques and galleries of Orchard Street, this tiny restaurant is housed in a turn-of-the-century tenement building on the Lower East Side. Accommodating just 35 diners, the homelike interior has floor-to-ceiling windows fitted with pillow-topped banquettes, as well as simple blond-wood chairs and wooden niches displaying colorful dishware. The restaurant serves upscale American comfort food with an emphasis on seasonal, local ingredients. The brunch menu includes baked French toast with caramelized bananas and toffee sauce, while the dinner favorite is the ever-changing Swine of the Week dish, such as milk-braised pork butt with lemon-horseradish sauce.
After your meal, walk along Sara D. Roosevelt Park to the nearby Sunshine Cinema, where you can catch an independent film.
