Founded by brothers Tomohiro and Yoshio Katagiri in 1907, this small Japanese grocery store has been selling imported Japanese items for more than a century. Straddling the line between Midtown and the Upper East Side, the store is filled with Japanese foods, including packaged items like miso and udon, as well as daikon and dumpling wrappers. Mondays and Thursdays are popular days to visit, as new shipments of fresh seafood arrive twice weekly. The gift store, located next door, sells various Japanese gift items, including good luck cats and sake sets.
