Best Cellars
New York, NY, 10128, United States
This original shop on the Upper East Side of this revolutionary, east-coast, wine chain is now under the A&P umbrella, but still carries its own name and philosophy. With only about 100 or so selections at a time, Best Cellars is the opposite of a cluttered, hard-to-find, emporium which has everything. Bottles are color-coded and stuck in a wall-grid of pigeon holes organized by characteristics instead region, while a few bottle-laden, mahogany tables take up the simple, concrete floor space designed by Nobu Architect David Rockwell. Unbelievably, almost every bottle is under $15.
Insider Tip:
There’s a free tasting, sometimes two, every day at the store from either 3–6 p.m. or 5–8 p.m.
