Things to do in Majorca

The first word that comes to mind for most visitors to Mallorca is “beach,” but the island has a whole lot more to offer than its sandy coast. If you’re a bit of an adventurer, one of the best things to do in Mallorca is biking. The island features dozens of wide-open roadways and has become a major destination for cyclists from around the world. Or if you like to get around on foot, consider hiking any one of the many trails along the Serra de Tramuntana and checking out the island’s highest point: Puig Major. And, of course, there are plenty of opportunities to take to the water with locals offering to lead visitors on snorkeling and sailing expeditions at a moment’s notice.

Those more interested in history will find that Mallorca is teeming with it. Be sure to add visits to former Arabian fort Palau de l’Almudaina, the Palma Cathedral and the Royal Charterhouse of Valldemossa to your list of things to do in Mallorca. Or let the experts guide you at museums like Ca'n Prunera, which is home to works by such 20th-century luminaries as Joan Miró, Pablo Picasso, and Henri Toulouse-Lautrec.

And finally, be sure to take in Mallorca’s breathtaking natural beauty at sites like Pollentia, the island’s most famous Roman ruins, and the four Dragon Caves where tours end with a special performance by a string quartet, topping it all off with an afternoon spent basking in the sun at Cala de Deià, a lovely coastal inlet abutting the island’s mountains.
