Paseo del Prado 8, Madrid, 28014, Spain | +34 91 791 1370

Generally known as the Thyssen, the museum houses two astonishing private collections—those of Baron and Baroness Thyssen-Bornemisza—that provide a brilliant counterpoint to the works of art in the Prado and Reina Sofía museums. (The three form the "Golden Triangle" of art in the heart of Madrid.) Whereas the Prado shows off the historical royal collection, the Thyssen collection features many types of painting that the Spanish kings did not or could not acquire: Dutch seascapes and landscapes, French Impressionism, and works by more modern masters like Gauguin, Kandinsky, Georgia O'Keeffe, and Willem de Kooning. It also has an active exhibition schedule and one of the most innovative museum shops in the world.
